Oil Pulling With Coconut Oil

OIL PULLING WITH COCONUT OIL

Oil pulling has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine, which dates back thousands of years,  It involves placing 1-3 teaspoons of oil in your mouth then pushing, pulling, and drawing it through the teeth for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. Basically, you remove a large amount of the bacteria, plaque and toxins in your mouth each time you do this.  I have been oil pulling daily for several weeks and my gums no longer bleed, my gum “pockets” are shrinking and my teeth are whiter since there is no longer any plaque buildup on them.

There are thousands of different types of bacteria in the mouth. Some of them are friendly, others are not.  Certain bacteria can cause harm, such as Streptococcus Mutans, which is the main culprit behind plaque buildup, gingivitis and cavities.  The bacteria in the mouth create a “biofilm” on the teeth – a thin layer that they use to adhere to the surface which is referred to as plaque.

You may have read articles about the health of your mouth affects the health of your heart and arteries.   Several species of bacteria that cause periodontitis have been found in the atherosclerotic plaque in arteries in the heart and elsewhere.   I have been looking for natural ways to help me lower my blood pressure and this may be one of the ways.  Stayed tuned!!!

Several plant oil can be used (sesame, sunflower) however my favorite is coconut oil.  Coconut oil is considered by many to be the “complete” and healthy food source.

In the articles I’ve read, oil pulling has been mentioned to aid with insomnia, tooth aches, thrombosis, bronchitis, bleeding or receding gums, blood sugar issues, PMS, joint pains, asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, PMS, and chronic skin problems. Oil pulling works by detoxifying or cleansing the body.

The oil should never be swallowed since it is carrying bacteria and toxins. Don’t spit it in your sink or drains, it can cause clogging. Discard the used oil by spiting into a trashcan or out in the yard.
